review of my zine goals for 2019 + ZINE GOALS FOR 2020

ok so i wrote 99% of this post back in january, i don’t even know when, didn’t quite finish and then completely forgot about until i went to post my previous blog post. oops. i can’t be arsed to rewrite so i’m just gonna post as is and maybe add my current thoughts at the end.

welcome to 2020 or whatever. last year i made a blog post of my zine goals for 2019. and now that 2019 is done and dusted, it’s time to have a look at what i did!

📝 RENAME THE DISTRO, RELAUNCH AND THEN STAY ON TOP OF DISTRO STUFF!
📝 FINISH THE ZINE ABOUT GOING TO FINLAND IN 2016.
📝 MAKE A DISTRO BIRTHDAY COMPILATION ZINE!
📝 MAKE A ‘NORMAL’ ISSUE OF YOUR PRETTY FACE
🚫 WRITE THAT ZINE ABOUT MY FRIEND KASPER & GRIEF.
🚫 A FEMINIST COMPILATION ZINE THATS SUITABLE & ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL AGES
💭 FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER FANZINE

FOUR out of SEVEN is not bad! in order of appearance i 1) renamed the distro to Vampire Hag and relaunched it, made a ‘normal’ issue of your pretty face is going straight to hell (#25), finished my finland zine (your pretty face is going straight to hell #26) and i made the distro birthday compilation zine! i also started the faith fanzine, but sadly didn’t quite finish it. so that’s counts as maybe a half? however i didn’t even look at the other two zine goals. but that’s ok. i didn’t expect to do everything anyway. and i actually did a couple of extra zine related things i had wanted to do for a while that were not on my list:

🖋️ CROWDFUNDED & BOUGHT A PHOTOCOPIER / PRINTER FOR THE DISTRO!
🖋️ RAN A ZINE WORKSHOP AT A LOCAL LIBRARY

what about 2020 though? let’s get to my new zine goals:

✨ FINISH THE NON-BINARY ZINE I’VE BEEN WORKING ON SINCE JULY

i kind of finished this zine once already but i couldn’t print it when i intended to print it and then when i could have printed, i couldn’t find the flats anymore! so i’m in the process of re-doing it (thankfully i had a lot of the text saved in my phone or the computer so i didn’t have to start from scratch.) this is my ‘safe’ goal because i know for a fact i am going to do this. but will i finish it in time for Weirdo Zine Fest on 1st February? it’s doable but i don’t know for sure.

✨ FINISH THE FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER FANZINE

i’ve got a handful of submissions for this but not quite enough and i’ve set and missed a few deadlines. but here i am, setting another one! MARCH 31ST! ..

✨ FINISH THE BIKINI KILL FANZINE

sometime in the spring i had the brilliant idea to make a bikini kill fanzine since they were getting back together for some reunion gigs and obviously the appropriate reaction was to make a zine! again, i’ve got some really cool submissions for it but not quite enough and i set and missed a few deadlines. (there’s a running theme over here) i’m not sure what the new deadline should be but i also kind of want to finish it in time for Glasgow or Swansea Zine Fests, so i guess that deadline shall (at least for now) also be MARCH 31ST?

✨ START OFFERING ZINE PRINTING SERVICES

i’ve offered this as a reward with the printer crowdfunder, and i wanted the printer to be for ‘everyone’ and not just for me, but before i can offer this service outside the crowdfunder rewards i need to like actually figure out the prices, like what i’m going to charge per page and so on. i want to get this going before the year is out (preferably before the summer, but hey i’m being realistic, it’s gonna be a while.

✨ DO MORE LOCAL ZINE THINGS

so yeah this is vague as fuck but *shrugs* i want to do more things with Sittingbourne Zine Library if nothing else. they’re going to have zine clubs on the last saturday of each month and i’m gonna try to go to at least some of them (i’ve already penciled january 25th in my bullet journal)

✨ MAKE AT LEAST 3 ZINES

(not including the compilation zines) i want to make more zines now i don’t have the excuse of ‘oh i don’t have easy affordable access to printing’ and there’s a beautiful print right next to me. Just Make Things FFS. i’m thinking i might change the name of my perzine though. i think your pretty face is going straight to hell may have run its course.. but i have no idea what to change it to. so we’ll see if that happens ever. also who knows, maybe 2020 will be the year i finally make my cooking zine?

ok so it’s already march now (yikes!) and i’ve ‘already’ finished ONE ZINE. a standard issue of your pretty face is going straight to hell, number 27, as mentioned before. i’ve also almost run out of black ink, it currently says estimated 70 pages left. it’s a bit scary but i have the ££ for a replacement put aside in my savings account and the ultra high yield replacement cartridge will do almost 3 times as much printing as the cartridge the printer came with. and i went to the first / january zine club at sittingbourne (zine) library as planned, but i missed the february one 🙁 what else? i also made a new flyer for the faith zine.
